All about the Charlotte Wildlife Stewards
WHAT HAPPENS AT Charlotte Wildlife Stewards MEETINGS?
We like to call them "programs". They often feature regional speakers who are experts in their field, such as biology, wildlife preservation, native and invasive plants, creating a backyard habitat, and air and water quality. We also share regional environmental news and answer your questions. Programs are generally on environmental topics we feel are of interest to most people. They are free, open to the public and family-friendly. There's time to meet and greet like-minded people here in Charlotte. We also have a number of nature hikes and tours that take place on Saturday mornings.
WHAT ARE SOME OF OUR PROJECTS?
HOW IS Charlotte Wildlife Stewards FUNDED?
Through dues-sharing for new members of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation (NCWF), raffles, private donations and special events. Funds are used to create wildlife habitats and support environmental projects throughout the Charlotte region.
We also have an annual fundraiser in June: "Wild on the Water".
You can support our efforts by making a secure donation now right here.
HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
If you are not already a member of the NCWF, please consider joining. Go to NCWF.org or pick up an application at our next program. Select Charlotte Wildlife Stewards as your local chapter. Membership can be whatever you want it to be. We welcome volunteers to help in our mission. Become an acting member by taking part in our leadership team. Interested? Let's talk!

WHAT ARE SOME OF OUR PROJECTS?
- Creating certified wildlife habitats at schools, public parks, businesses and places of worship. One of our recent projects took place in the Chantilly Ecological Sanctuary.
- Conducting public projects such as removal of invasive plants along the greenway or local trails, installing birdhouses and other nature support activities. We recently partnered with Mecklenburg Stormwater Services to certify the Chantilly Ecological Sanctuary as a NWF wildlife habitat.
- Hosting educational field trips such as "I Spy....." which is focused on helping kids (and their families) connect with nature in a safe and friendly environment.
- Our "Kids in Nature Day" is a local outdoor craft and exploration outdoor event with some of our environmental partners. A hands-on, creative day of understanding the natural world.
- "Wild on the Water" is our annual fundraiser and is combined with a kayak/canoe paddle tour of selected areas of Mountain Island Lake, along with environmental education presentations by area specialists. This is a great way to use paddling as method of scenic wildlife exploration.
- We'll come to your school, garden club, HOA, or organization and give a presentation on a host of topics related to the creation of wildlife habitats.
